Authors
It has always been our policy at Bank House to be open to new ideas and submissions from authors. We’ve had plenty of experiences of both sides of the fence and are more than aware how easy it is for authors to become downhearted with the negativity and rejection that seem to be endemic in the book world.
Publishing, by definition, is concerned with getting ideas and viewpoints out – not by restricting the voices that can be heard to those who say the least the loudest.
This does not say that Bank House publishes every book it is offered – far from it - but we try and support every good one, technical and financial constraints permitting.
If you have an idea, bring it to us first. Whether we take it on or not, the reply you get will be honest, helpful and informed.
All being well, we could soon be working together.

Submissions
Please give us as much info as possible about your idea. Think about the following:
A working title – this might change, but is the central thought of the project
Approximate length – ideally a rough word count
Proposed number of illustrations
Type of book – non-fiction, fiction, specialist, photographic, art, biography, memoirs, how-to, etc.
Special reasons why the book should be a good bet
Any claim to fame of the author
Any date, event or aspect that relates to the book – forthcoming, historical, social, etc.
Full contact details – phone, email, postal address and the URL of your website (if any).
Experience
As well as our combined experiences in the book publishing field, we at Bank House have a track record of working with artists and people in the public eye. While others court so-called ‘celebrities’ we continue to build sound and rewarding relationships with real creative people from music, television, film and theatre, thanks to our real understanding and appreciation of the nature of these crafts. We are known worldwide for our commitment to Motown and soul music, and are now working with increasing numbers of significant musicians from other fields, as well as the people who brought us the golden age of television.
We have long and successful experience with local and national history, biography and reference books. Quality colour and photographic books are making an ever bigger showing – and we will see more emphasis on titles offering a new slant on important issues – again entirely valid and significant views that are often denied their voice by a self-serving – and self-preserving – orthodoxy.
Author’s Internet Promotion Advice
Along with the traditional activities an author can use to promote his or her books such as local bookshop signings and so on, in recent years promoting on the Internet has become perhaps the single most important activity an author can employ to personally assist in achieving significant long term sales volumes.
Owing to the number and variety of books we publish, it is not possible for BHB staff to undertake Internet promotion for each and every book. We have found that this type of activity is best done by authors as it entails being constantly involved in the online community for their topic(s), something authors are typically doing more and more today as a routine part of their promotional activity.
The following notes are intended as a guide to help you to promote your work and obtain a high level of exposure that was in past years extremely difficult to achieve. There are sure to be other activities that we have not noted, and the Internet is changing so rapidly that new ones are being thought of all the time, so if you have any additional ideas to add to this list please do let us know.
Ten things to do online to promote your book and increase your book awareness and sales:
Bank House takes care of the most important factor – getting your book on to Amazon and other key Internet book retailers. With this in place, other websites and online promotion need to be in place to direct people to the online bookshop to buy your book.
This may at first appear daunting, particularly if you are new to the Internet and computers. If so, find a friend who is up on all this to help you out until you get up to speed, or contact us and we will help you. In reality the amount of time it takes in relation to the volume of exposure you can achieve is incredibly small if you work at it. The Internet is ‘viral’ – once you get a message going it keeps going – but you will need to keep stocking the interest and keeping it active.
If you can’t do all of these, do what you can to build up the activity, but don’t ignore it. Online marketing is the future of your book sales and if enough is done it can play a central role in creating a bestseller.
Good luck, and have fun!
