Quick Overview

More than six years in preparation, this is the most comprehensive book ever written about Windsor Great Park.

Drawing on his family's unique involvement with the development and day-to-day running of the estate, Clifford Smith has gathered together hundreds of photographs, most of which previously unpublished, a wealth of anecdotes and a vast body of historical fact.

He has produced his own detailed maps and catalogued every Royal Review ro have taken place since 1818, and every Royal Agricultural Show held on the Cavalry Exercise Ground since 1889. His great-great-grandfather was in charge of the planting and care of of the trees on the estate from 1820-1860, and his great-grandfather was a Royal Gamekeeper for 53 years. Other family members were gamekeepers, gatekeepers, dog keepers, warreners, woodmen, wardens, royal dressmakers and teachers.

Six generations of his family have been born on or near the estate and Clifford is no exception. His book, more than six years in preparation, is the most comprehensive ever written about Windsor Great Park.
