A fascinating insight into the conduct of the British Review by The Master
An excellent and very topical book which deserves widespread publicty. This book covers many campaigns that the Britsh were involved with and it is to be remembered that it was the British who first set up concentration camps during the Boer War.
Very readable to the layman as well as the historian. (Posted on 12/10/2009) -
three five-star reviews on Amazon.co.uk Review by Simon @ Bank House
see amazon.co.uk for full reviews:
‘In the current climate of concern about treatment of prisoners from the Iraqi conflict, Michael Foley's book is very apt in the insight it gives into the long history of the way victors have treated captives.’
‘The book brings us through to the latest conflicts and achieves very well the author's claim to create an unbiased view.’
‘A detailed and moving insight into an aspect of war that is often forgotten. Michael manages to cram a remarkable amount of detail into the book, which ironically leaves one wanting to know even more. If you happen to know of some of the camp locations, then the desire to follow up the stories of those individuals and groups is irresistible.’
‘It manages to tell the truth without seeming to be a book that has been written to badmouth us as a nation. . . . there are plenty of surprises in here for everyone who thought the British were always considerate to the beaten foe.’
